The Torbay Development Agency is working with Galliford Try, the contractor company behind the construction of the new South Devon Link Road, to help businesses in the Bay gain the maximum benefit from the massive infrastructure project.

The TDA is reaching out to its growing business directory to identify businesses who might be interested in offering exclusive incentives and discounts to employees or contractors associated with the construction of the South Devon Link Road.

The discount schemes are intended for the mutual benefit of both contractors and Torbay businesses, and the purpose of this joint effort is to ensure that local companies take advantage of the opportunities available through the construction process.

The road is estimated to be completed in 2015 and approximately 250 employees will be working on the contract, so it is a great opportunity to generate business for Torbay.

The project provides opportunities for businesses in the food and beverages sector, the construction sector, the entertainment sector and the tourism and hospitality sector, as some of the employees working on the contract may be coming from outside the area and looking for accommodation.

Companies supplying materials which may be used in the construction of the Link Road might also find this to be a great opportunity to benefit from the largest local construction project in a generation.

Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver said: “This is a great initiative by the Torbay Development Agency and Galliford Try, and I am delighted that the South Devon Link Road is already delivering such benefits to the Torbay economy, before the project is even completed.

Galliford Try‘s Jim Watson, Project Director for the link road, said: “Some local businesses are already providing discounts to our employees and sub-contractors.  This initiative is very welcome and we look forward to the widening of these arrangements for our mutual benefit.”

Torbay Development Agency Chief Executive, Steve Parrock added: “I am glad we are able to use our growing business database to provide this opportunity to companies around the Bay. Our online business directory is continually growing and business owners can register on our website – www.torbaydevelopmentagency.co.uk to make their companies more visible and take advantage of similar opportunities in the future.”
