Maidstone is the county town of Kent in the south east of the United Kingdom.

Strategically the town is one of the best located business destinations within the UK situated just 35 miles from the City of London and 35 miles from the Port of Dover which connects it through to all of the major European trading centres.

The Eurotunnel and high speed rail-links are all close-by and all of London’s major airports, Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Luton and London City are within easy reach.

The M20 motorway runs just to the north of the town and connects through 5 well considered junctions and there is good access to the M2, M26 AND M25 motorways.

The borough of Maidstone has been ranked within the top 50 best places to live in the UK based on resident's health and wellbeing, affordability of housing, education, employment levels, low crime rates, good weather and good broadband access.

Maidstone - County town of Kent, UK

The town is home to three of the UK’s leading grammar schools and will give new investors access to a highly skilled and productive workforce that currently generates some £3billion annual GVA.

Over the last ten years, the local economy has experienced steady growth in output per head and employment which currently stands at 72,000 employees employed in more than 7,000 businesses, making it easily the largest commercial centre in Kent.

The town hosts large public and professional services sectors including legal, insurance, and accountancy firms, complementing a growing presence in the medical services and technology sectors.

Maidstone town centre is a thriving retail and leisure destination and has a growing reputation as a place to live and visit. Maidstone is also the largest late night retail and leisure hub in Kent, providing 4,000 jobs and a night time economy worth £75m.

The main focus of commercial activity is urban Maidstone but there are significant hubs in rural Staplehurst, Marden and Lenham for example, reflecting the historical importance of Maidstone as an agricultural centre, more recent rural diversification and increasingly the land based industries of the future.

To underline our belief in Maidstone the town is now set to become home to the first of a new generation of purpose-built drive-through Scania dealerships.

Based upon a model developed in collaboration with Scania Sweden, the company has purchased a 2.5 acre site within the borough that represents a total investment of £6m.  Building work is now underway following the granting of planning consent last December.

To be constructed to the same exacting specification as a near-identical Scania location opened in Brussels recently, Scania Maidstone will be equipped with a full range of leading-edge technological and environmental features.

Situated on the A229 just off junction 6 of the M20, the site will provide an extensive range of services for truck, bus and coach operators in the South East, including commercial traffic entering and leaving the UK by way of the Kent ports and the Channel Tunnel.  Importantly, the planning consent allows free movement of vehicles at all times, thus enabling 24-hour operation.

Scheduled to open in January 2016, the new Scania Maidstone premises will feature five drive-through workshop bays and a DVSA Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) lane.  A full Scania parts service, including parts for all makes, trailers and ancillary components will be offered as the site will house both new and used truck sales operations and a location for Scania Truck Rental.  Initially, Scania Maidstone will provide employment for a total of 34 Technicians, Parts and Admin staff, a figure which is anticipated to rise significantly as the branch establishes itself in the area.
